The next day we cycled through Taitung Forest Park, then over to National University of Taiwan to visit their iconic library building; another 50+ km day. The park, admission 35 NT, about 1.1 USD, has a very cool pergola tunnel, several lakes, and lots of bike trails.
This lake is one kilometer long and is used for swimming and dragon boat races and more.
After leaving the park, it was an hour+ ride to the university where we had a picnic while looking across to the library. Then toured the library.
You can walk to the top of the library from the outside. Neat.
Then another hour+ back to Taitung where the best ever Mountains-Ocean rail trail took us back to the old station. Love the way part of the trail is made rideable using wooden planks between the rails ie rails still in place.

And a walk through the night market with Taitung's signature fruit, the custard apple, in the foreground.

The first picture of the library architecture reminds me of my old IBM XT monitor sitting in my attic.
ReplyDeleteI see the resemblance! I cannot believe you still have it, but I should not be surprised.
