Day Two in Mikulov: Bus to Valtice, walk 12 kms to Lednice, take the bus back to Mikulov via Pavlov, after dinner stroll.
The Valtice Chateau was fairly impressive. We were surprise, but should not have been, to see a few tour groups; it is on the Czech Wine Region circuit.
It was cool, damp, and cloudy as we set up for Lednice on a well-marked,, multi-use trail. The whole area between Valtice and Lednice - 7 kms as the crow flies - is park-like with lakes, trails, trees, and some monuments.
A light rain brings out the umbrellas.
We stopped for lunch under this Arch.
Monument to St Hubertus.
The old stables.
The small train stop/station at the Lednice Lake. We sat here for 15 minutes and became mesmerized by the birds: swallows, ducks, chickadees, herons, and more;-)
The Lednice Chateau is very impressive collection of grounds, buildings, and gardens. There is even a English-style conservatory (greenhouse).
This evening, there was a beautiful sunset in Mikulov.
The distinctive one-column entrance arcades of some homes in the Jewish Quarter.
Sun-Ling and John have been traveling the earth since 2008 while blogging, eating vegetarian and vegan, and riding public transportation. We love uphill day hikes, 20th-century architecture, Roman ruins, all bodies of water, local markets, shopping for groceries, aqueducts, miradors, trip planning, blablacar, and more.

Mikulov - Day One
Mikulov is in the wine region of Czech. We went there for the hiking, not the wine. After arriving at noon and finding a great apartment, we walked 12 kms north to Dolni Vestonice and rode the bus back to Mikulov. The next day we rode the bus to Valtice, walked 12 kms to Lednice, then took the bus back to Mikulov via Pavlov.
Each night after dinner we took an evening stroll. Mikulov is a very scenic town, and being on a small hill, it has scenic views over the surrounding plains.
View from the train window somewhere between Olomouc and Breclav. I think these are turnips, but if we were in China they would be rape flowers.
Mikulov Town Square and plague column.
First walk: North to Dolni Vestonice.
View to Mikulov Castle.
The Jewish Cemetery.
Our first view of the plains to the EAST.
Vineyards with "striped" plowing. This was a common pattern. Why stripes?
Part of the trail was alongside a road.
Wind, wheat, and castle.
View back to Mikulov on its small hills. Notice the striped fields.
View to the EAST.
Walking NORTH.
Plenty of trails to choose from. We are headed to Dívčí Hrad ie Dívčí Castle.
Looking south to Mikulov.
Looking North.
Wild Iris.
Through the woods.
And in the middle of the woods there is a soccer field. Hmmm.
Trail runner. This guy passed us about an hour before and now is returning. Wow.
Paragliding runway.
And our first glimpse of our destination, Dolni Vestonice. The bus stop is next to the church.
And this is the town of Pavlov to the Northeast.
Views from Divci Castle, and we still have 2.5 kms to the bus stop in Dolni Vestonice.
And with Pavlov below.
Young/new Vineyards just outside DV.
And a view of the Mikulov Castle as we walk home from the bus stop.
Evening walk around the castle.
Not much of a sunset.
The roof of the newly restored Synagogue.
