We had low expectations for Verona, cutting our time there in half as we rearranged our itinerary before/during/after Easter. But there's something about a town that is inscribed with a beautiful river; embraces, accommodates, and outnumbers its tourists; and is the home of a literary heroine ie Juliet. Not to mention its Roman ruins. We very much enjoyed our stay in Verona.
The Roman Amphitheater is the center of the Old Town even though it's at the western edge.
Ancient Roman City Gate nearby.
Piazza Erbe and the daily market.
Juliet's balcony in the back right, and "love notes".
Old Town Verona is encircled on three sides by the River Adige, the 2nd longest river in Italy.
One of our guide books said that Verona was a very prosperous city and that 1 in 2 cars was a BMW.
Cathedral.
St Xeno's lovely facade.
Our apartment's bathroom was bigger than most of the hotel rooms so far on this trip.
And the common room was humongous. We sure did like our rooms in Verona.
And with a kitchen, Sun-Ling was able to cook dinner for us which we ate on the terrace.
The Old Castle is next to a city gate and a bridge that is fun for young and old..
Evening strollers on streets made smooth by hundreds of years of foot traffic.
Sun-Ling and John have been traveling the earth since 2008 while blogging, eating vegetarian and vegan, and riding public transportation. We love uphill day hikes, 20th-century architecture, Roman ruins, all bodies of water, local markets, shopping for groceries, aqueducts, miradors, trip planning, blablacar, and more.

Looks lovely, despite the crowds. You have me wondering why I'm at home and not on the road.
Ah, dining Al fresco...we are just recovering from the pollen clouds.
Kathy, At this time of year, most of the crowds are at just 2 or 3 places, and the rest of the city is bustling along, or relaxing, without them.
