Barletta is a good base for excursions as there are many nearby towns worth a visit. We saw Molfetta, Bisceglie, and Trani all in one day as they are less than 20kms from Barletta and on the same rail line.
Christmas lights were up in the narrow streets of Molfetta. We visited the Cathedral, and strolled along the busy waterfront promenade where fishermen had just finished selling the day's catch and were repairing their nets.
Bisceglie, also decked out for Christmas, seemed more prosperous with a proper yacht basin and fish market.
We visited Trani in 2016 and decided to return on this trip. The late afternoon and early evening sky was amazing. And of course the highlight of any visit to Trani is the Doumo (Basílica Catedral de San Nicolás Peregrino) and its sublime bell tower, one of the main examples of Apulian Romanesque architecture (from wikipedia).
Sun-Ling and John have been traveling the earth since 2008 while blogging, eating vegetarian and vegan, and riding public transportation. We love uphill day hikes, 20th-century architecture, Roman ruins, all bodies of water, local markets, shopping for groceries, aqueducts, miradors, trip planning, blablacar, and more.
