The second biggest lesson from traveling is that everything is relative to expectations. Salta was supposed to be another highlight for Argentina. It only turned out to be just a smaller version of Cordoba and Tucuman. However it does have a number of churches that have high wow factors. Being Ash Wednesday, the Cathedral was particularly happening. In fact, other than the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City, I had not seen such activity inside a Christian church. There were so many people and with all the comings and goings, evocative more of Hindu, Buddhist, and Chinese temples. During this trip we have gone into countless churches, I have come to really appreciate their cool quietude amidst the hustle and bustle of the city and blazing heat of the sun. Good place for meditation....
Outside the cathedral on the square, the atheists occupied themselves with marching for International Women's Day and worker's rights, complete with red flags with Chairman Mao, not Che!

Sun-Ling and John have been traveling the earth since 2008 while blogging, eating vegetarian and vegan, and riding public transportation. We love uphill day hikes, 20th-century architecture, Roman ruins, all bodies of water, local markets, shopping for groceries, aqueducts, miradors, trip planning, blablacar, and more.
