Toruń

By chance our compartment companions on the train from Poznan to Torun, the birthplace of Astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus, included 3 locals fluent in English; thus a 90-minute wide ranging discussion on climate change, immigration and emigration, Poland vs Ukraine, and of course the weather. ;-)

Torun is quite the holiday destination; and this being a 4-day weekend, throngs of folks were walking the streets and squares, or watching the speed boat races on the Vistula River, or the jousting at the castle, or the performers on the Rynok Square Stage, and it seems that 50 percent of them were eating ice cream cones at any one time. We enjoyed Torun.

A stage was set up the main square for the 4-day weekend festivities. We enjoyed listening to this U2 cover band.




There are pretty good views of Torun Old Town from the bridge over the Vistula River.


And a report on Torun would not be complete without a photo of the monument to Copernicus that sits in front of the Town Hall.
