Finally, after peering through the entrance gate in April 2011 (see below) but ultimately deciding we'd come back to Ollantaytambo instead of visiting, here we are in 2019 with Boleto Turisto in hand.
April 24, 2011.
Map of the route through the ruins.
We start up into the ruins. At last.
Our first view back to the modern Ollantaytambo town. We can see the window of our room at Hostal Kuychipunku. It's that very white wall on the back of a small courtyard to the right of the white car.
The Templo del Sol is impressive with huge smooth stones.
Higher and higher.
On the outside of the unfinished Templo de Sol, one can see the remnants of pumas carved in relief.
SL points in the direction of the Gran Pyramid, the Great Ramp and the quarries across the river.
Great spot for kids to scramble.
Looking over across the valley where the purple monoliths were quarried.
Bird's eye views of Ollantaytambo.
More great views.
Looking across to Templo del Sol.
And the other direction to the warehouses.
Inside a Incan warehouse.
Walking down the terraces.
A shrine (huaca) carved into a rock.
The so-called Inca Baths.
Done. One site punched on the Boleto Turistico; fifteen to go. ;-)
Sun-Ling and John have been traveling the earth since 2008 while blogging, eating vegetarian and vegan, and riding public transportation. We love uphill day hikes, 20th-century architecture, Roman ruins, all bodies of water, local markets, shopping for groceries, aqueducts, miradors, trip planning, blablacar, and more.
