The Regional train to Sibiu was more crowded than we expected with folks returning to home and school after the long weekend. We pulled into Sibiu at 6:15 pm in a light rain with the forecast calling for rain for the next 24 hours. So we installed ourselves in a cozy hotel just off the main drag.
First thing the next day we headed to the somewhat helpful tourist office. The most valuable piece of info: like us, she uses Accuweather.com as her weather oracle. Haha!
The next day we planned. We visited the local Billa grocery stores 4 times. And we started a self-guided city walking tour in the cold (45 F) and drizzle, and finished in the cold and sun. It was the coldest day of our trip to far.
Lunch at Super Mamma.
The Piata Mare (Big Square) in the Upper Town.
The Interior of the Orthodox Church.
An Art Nouveau Doorway.
Looking from the Lower Town to the Upper Town.
Small Square, Upper Town, with road to Lower Town at right.
Small Square - Upper Town.
Gogosi - a new fav snack food.
The Synagogue.
20th Century Modern Apartment Building with Old Europe style roof.
Deco doorway near our hotel.
A section of the City Wall near our hotel - with three towers.
Love the dormers.
Views of Evangelical Church from Lower Town.
The Evangelical Church was closed for renovation but the exterior views were magnificent.

Town looks cool. Sorry it's also cold! Love the doors.
Kathy, The town is very photogenic; perhaps that was helpful in becoming the European Cultural Capital for 2007....The cold weather lasted only a few days. Today, 09 May, it's back in the 70's. ;-)
Love the photos! Reminds me so much of our time in Sibiu. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy the trip!
Thanks Wyman!
