The highlight of Xalapa was easily the Anthropological Museum which is supposed to be second in Mexico only to the one in Mexico City. It was thoroughly absorbing. The place is super well laid out and organized. The museum has such a vast collection, making it possible for visitors to make observations and draw conclusions on their own, even though all the labels are in Spanish only. For example, there are 17 giant Olmec heads in the world. This museum has 7! And may now be our favorite archeological museum.
On the bus from Papantla to Xalapa.

View from our hotel balcony to Pico de Orizaba. At ~18,400 feet, it's the highest point in Mexico, and 3rd highest in North America. Plus, the view from the city center.

Basy Xalapa.

Main Course at Vegetariano Restaurante Aztlan.

City Hall Murals.

Parque de los Tecajetes and Parque Los Lagos; urban parks.

The very cool Art Deco open-ended Stadium dating from the 1940's. Plus the Baseball Park.

The- Museo de Antropología de Xalapa; maybe the best museum in Mexico.

Olmec Heads which were sculpted about 1200 BCE. Wow!

The famous El Senor de las Lamas.

Small "doll" with movable arms, and it folds into a case. Over 1000 years old.

Life-size effigies of women who died in childbirth. Check out the snakes around their waists.
