The section has a high tide and low tide option. We happened to be there during low tide, but chose to go on the longer option in the woods, where we finally had a glimpse of a Kaka after hearing much about and from them.
In Nelson, we were up before sunrise to catch the shuttle thus the views along the Tasman Bay were beautiful

In Abel Tasman we boarded a catamaran water taxi for the one hour trip to Medlands Beach.

The boat dropped us off right on Medlands Beach. The Abel Tasman Coast Track was just meters away.

The walk was pleasant, and every few minutes a great view of the coast.

This was the view from our lunch spot.

A few shots of the low tide crossing we skipped.

We crossed a swing bridge and headed to Cleopatra's Pool (overrated IMO).

On the way to the pickup point we spotted a "fairy tale" mushroom.

Here we are at Anchorage Beach waiting for the return catamaran taxi.

The return shuttle driver, a local, stopped for a minute to show us some kiwi vines.
