From Pavia we headed north by metro, train, and bus to the village of Menaggio on the shores of Lake Como. Finally. We had wanted that view for a long time. The bus ride had been nauseating, the weather rainy and cold. But roses by the lake were blooming and the moonrise over Lake Como = stunning.
The next morning was sunny and brisk. Overnight, the distant mountains had received a light dusting of snow. We walked north to Acquaseria on the Antica Strada Regina (Old Roman Road) and returned by bus. Then jumped on the bus up to Croce where we walked past some cool WWI fortifications out to the Crocetta, a cross with a view.
Our second full day in Menaggio, we rode the bus to Breglia, and walked up to the Rifugio Menaggio from which there were views back along Lake Como to Bellagio and west over Lago Lugano to Lugano, Switzerland.

Walking north on the Roman Road (Antica Via Regina). There is a dusting of snow on the far mountains. And a view down to Hotel Villa La Gaeta, a location for a recent James Bond film.
