Other Towns in Southern Czech

Energetic you say.... April 21 we took the 9:50 bus from Cesky Krumlov to Ceske Budejovice, left our luggage at the bus station, enjoyed a 3-hour walk around the Budejovice Town Square, reclaimed our bags and took the 14:10 bus to Trebon, a small town an hour EAST by bus. By 15:30 we were settled in to our hotel and out for a 2-hour self-guided walking tour of Trebon's Old Square, castle, canals, and lakes.

The next morning we headed out for a short walk by the lake before breakfast, caught the 9:30 bus to Telc which in Southern Moravia, left our luggage at the train station, enjoyed a 2-hour self-guided walking tour of Telc by mostly sitting in the Town Square, then reclaimed our bags and took the 15:30 bus to Brno, Moravia, the second largest city in the Czech Republic. With the threat of rain and cold for the next two days, we immediately headed headed out to see the sights - to be covered in the next post.

Budejovice's Square is big, does not have a McDonald's per strong public sentiment, but does have a Chinese restaurant.

Many of the streets are arcaded - nice.

Of the old city wall, only a few towers remain.

How 'bout this stepped gable on the old Salt House? These days it's the Motorcycle Museum.

We had lunch at vegetarian-friendly cafeteria, and this dessert.

Trebon's square is picturesque with a castle at one end. We stayed at the historic Bily Konicek Hotel seen at far right.

It is also a spa town. Here's the modern spa building.

There are paths along the small canals that encircle Trebon.

There are also several man-made lakes that were built for fish farming.

The Sporitelna Bank Building across from our hotel had some cool Social Realist reliefs.

We had one of the few vegetarian local Czech dishes, potato cakes with sauerkraut, for dinner, plus an omelette and Regent beer.

Telc is about 90 minutes by bus east of Trebon. It's another small town in southern Czech with a picturesque town square. We spent most of our 2 hours there walking around or sitting on the square. The monument at left foreground is a plague column, built to give thanks for a city escaping a plague, or for the ending of a plague.
