It turned out not a good time of the year to visit, it's either rainy or too hot for me for outdoor activities. Furthermore, the village tourist operations seem a little greedy, charging admission to swimming holes, mandating guides for walks, steep taxi rates, not to mention costly tours.
We did one hike. The heat wiped us out.
Motorcycle lanes in Salvador.
We're up top and in the front row on the bus. Woohoo! And are following the elevated Metro tracks as we head west out of town towards Lencois.
Soon we are off the expressway and on to the 2-laner. The landscape gets dryer and dryer. There's no agriculture, only a smattering of grazing; just small trees, tufts of grass, rocks and cactus.
Check out the cool walking path in the median as we pass through the town of Itaberaba. We would see this type of "paved median" at least once more.
As we get closer to Lencois, there are more green trees.
In Lencois we rented the upper floor of a house. Here's the view from our back window.
I have just opened a Cacao pod. Thanks Youtube!
Around Town.
Every evening the tables and chairs come out on Rua Urbano Duarte and visitors enjoy atmospheric al fresco dining.
Senhor dos Passos Church.
The view back to town as we walk to the waterfalls and pools.
The walk to the pools and falls was the Hottest Walk Ever !! Hotter than trudging across the desert in Egypt (1st below). ;-)
Video of Ribeirão do Meio waterfall and pool.
