One day we took the bus to have a short hike from Melanes, the antithesis of our Santorini walk. I imagine very little has changed over the millennia along this route.
"Goodbye Santorini" as we take the bus down to the ferry dock and sail out of the harbour.
Disembarking the huge ferry at Naxos.
Our room in Naxos has a terrace with a view!
Walking the Naxos Village Trail Loop starting in Melanes.
The low hanging pipa/loquat fruits were tasty!
Thirty minutes later we passed through the tiny, idyllic village of Myli.
The ancient unfinished statues of the Kouroi of Flerio.
And we return to Milanes via some beautiful country footpaths and roads, with an occasional view to Naxos and the sea.
Also of note in Naxos is the Portara, an arch (1st below) from the unfinished Temple of Apollo. And from which there are good views back to Naxos harbour and town (2nd below)
A few more views of Naxos town.
