For Art Nouveau fans, Nancy is a must stopover. We were not disappointed. While there aren't grand public buildings, there are a number of fantastical villas. The Art Nouveau museums (combo ticket) were particularly worthwhile.
Even though we arrived late in the evening, we made a point to see the main square lit at night. It was magical!
Our hotel in Nancy was just a few minutes walk from the train station and town center, Place Stanislas. So after checking in we beelined it to Place Stanislas to see the lights.
The next day we walked and walked around town checking out the "Nancy School" Art Nouveau buildings and 2 museums before catching our late-afternoon train to Strasbourg. First, looking in through the window to La Brasserie Excelsior.
Chamber of Commerce.
And more....
We walked back to Place Stanislas to see what it looked like in the daylight.
And then walked a few blocks south where many of the Art Nouveau villas are located. And happened upon a few Art Deco aparment buildings as well.
Some Art Nouveau doorways.
Lucky for us, we were right at the Musée de l'École de Nancy when it started to rain. What a collection of furniture, ceramics, glass and more!
Finally we walked over to the Villa Majorelle House Museum, seeing a few fine Art Nouveau buildings on the way.
The Villa Majorelle House Museum is worth the visit even though currently one can only visit the 1st floor and grounds.
Sun-Ling and John have been traveling the earth since 2008 while blogging, eating vegetarian and vegan, and riding public transportation. We love uphill day hikes, 20th-century architecture, Roman ruins, all bodies of water, local markets, shopping for groceries, aqueducts, miradors, trip planning, blablacar, and more.
